Reaching the Homeless of Prince William County with Prayer, Warmth and Generosity
Thank you for your interest in serving in The Christ Chapel Shelter Ministry. This is your opportunity to show the love of Christ to members of our community in their darkest hours.
WHAT: Right now Christ Chapel visits 2 shelters once a month and provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. Members of the Shelter Ministry develop the menus to ensure that tasty, nutritionally balanced meals are provided. Some people call them gourmet!
In addition to providing meals, the servants of Christ Chapel spend time in prayer and fellowship with the residents and sometimes bring small books and gifts. Oftentimes the shelter will tell us what additional items they need, such hats & gloves, paper products, cosmetics & toiletries, or school supplies, but our core commitment to the shelters is delicious home-cooked food.
WHERE: We do outreach at the following shelters
1- ACTS SHELTER (Route 1 @ 234) 17866 Main Street, Dumfries, VA 22026 (703) 221-3188 [Adjacent to Car Wash and across from EZ Storage]
2- HILDA BARG SHELTER, 14945 Jefferson Davis Hwy Woodbridge, VA 22191 (703) 680-540 3 [Across adjacent to Misty Ridge Apartments & Cowles Nissan. Across from EZ Storage]
WHO: The two shelters house families for a 30-day period.
WHEN WE DO IT: Our feedings are in the evenings.
We go to the ACTS shelter the third Friday of every month and the Hilda Barg shelter at various dates throughout the year. The time commitment is 6:30pm – 8:30pm. One person usually comes at 6:00pm to do set up. Dinner is served at 7:00pm.
HOW: Refer to the 2009 calendar & sign up sheets for the next few months Review the sign up sheet and determine based on your commute, budget and time constraints how you can help. Note: If you sign up to bring an item, you need to plan on bringing it to the shelter at the designated day and time. If you have questions or problems, contact Mrs. Christian.
If you signed up to bring an item for dinner, ensure that it is cooked and "hot"—per PW County standards, all food must be served at least 140 degrees. All other items can be room temp as appropriate. If you are coming to help, plan to stay until 8:30pm. If you have an apron, wear it.
Detailed information about the ministry, including the dates we visit all shelters and what you can do to help can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Christian, the Coordinator.
