| PASTOR BILL AND LYNNA ROBERTS |
| Christ Chapel History Christ Chapel, a diverse congregation representing people from a variety of backgrounds, races and ages and has just celebrated its 40th Anniversary. It is a self- governing assembly. It is linked to the General Council of the Assemblies of God through the Potomac District Council on which Pastor Roberts, Christ Chapel's senior pastor, serves as an Executive Presbyter. Christ Chapel fellowships with churches of all denominations through local and area pastor’ s fellowships, prayer meetings, prayer summits and community-wide church events. The Church has a strong Pentecostal and evangelical Christian heritage. Christ Chapel is founded on the blueprint of the New Testament church and uses the Bible as a pattern of growth and structure. It is legally recognized as an autonomous local church, operated by a Board of Elders, and registered with the General Council of the Assemblies of God. Christ Chapel was birthed in 1969 under the direction of Pastor Gerry Qualls from Arlington Assembly of God. Begun as a house church, its first building was constructed on Telegraph Road, Woodbridge in the early 70's. After outgrowing its initial facility, the church purchased property at its current location on Smoketown Road. In 1976, the late Pastor Gary Jenkins became Christ Chapel's pastor. During his early years of service in the late 70's and early 80's, the church met at Garfield High School. In 1983, it moved into the first phase of our present building at 13909 Smoketown Road. In 1988 our current senior pastor, Bill Roberts, joined Christ Chapel. With a committed leadership team, he immediately set out to bring the overall Christ Chapel Ministry plan to fruition. The ambitious long-range plans called for the construction of a sanctuary, additional education space, and a center for the Elderly. The sanctuary project was completed in 1991. Most recently, the Educational Annex was completed and occupied in 2000. And in August 2008 we opened the newest addition to our Education Wing. This Wing houses classrooms for Christ Chapel Academy and Valley Forge Christian College, Woodbridge Campus. On Sundays it is used for many of our Sunday School Classes. Planning continues for the development of the Elderly Home project. Throughout the process of building the aforementioned facilities, it was always emphasized that the real building was taking place in the lives of people. Throughout its history, Christ Chapel has been a church committed to building people in the ways of Christ. With a strong "Salvation" message and a "Holy Spirit Power" emphasis, the church has seen the lives of literally thousands impacted by the Gospel. Simultaneously, the church has remained attuned to the voice of God. Throughout the years, prophetic words have been proclaimed over the church that has indicated it would play a major role in a mighty move of God in this region. Prophetic messages for the church have continued with even greater intensity in recent years, and there have been some powerful outpourings of the Holy Spirit in our midst. On March 18, 2002, Evangelist Andre Van Zyl of South Africa proclaimed a Word for Christ Chapel that once again has ignited an even greater passion from our leadership to pray and seek God for a community- wide outpouring and transformation. In November 2003, Evangelist Danny Johnston proclaimed a Word for Christ Chapel that characterized the church as "pregnant-poised- ready" for even greater things to come in the near future. Day after day the people of Christ Chapel live their lives to fulfill the New Testament mandate of loving people, sharing truth and service. In doing so, they have proclaimed the doors of Christ Chapel open to everyone and anyone seeking to know Christ and live by His Word. Along with a staff of gifted Pastors and assistants, Pastor Roberts continues to lead Christ Chapel toward the goal of being a genuinely true lighthouse to our community, area and world What We Believe The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God. There is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years. In the blessed hope—the rapture of the church at Christ's coming. The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ. Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation. In water baptism by immersion. The redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. The baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it. In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. |
